The Next James Dean
Life As We Know It

Review by Sarah Cruz

Ever hear of Evansville, Indiana? I didn't think so. The Next James Dean is trying to change that, though and they're on the right road toward acknowledgement.

With a sound reminscent of early Taking Back Sunday, Brand New and New Found Glory, "Life as We Know It" has tracks that are upbeat and catchy. "18 is the New 35" is anthemic with sing-along choruses and dance-worthy verses. "Girl Move Your Feet" is a track that speaks for itself and will get toes tapping almost instantaneously. "Journal of a Wolf" stand out most, with fast tempo drumming, a brave guitar solo and melodic bridge. Overall, the most prominent quality of their songs is that they feel under-developed.

Though, I do think they've got the potential to make a name for themselves. The headline on their MySpace reads "On tour forever," and after seeing their extensive list of pending tour dates, the line's truth is evident. They can easily gain a dedicated fanbase--undoubtedly with a female backbone. The band definitely has set their hopes up high with such a bold name as The Next James Dean; perhaps they, too, seek the legacy repesenting teenage plight to be loved, understood and accepted.
