The Postal Service
Give Up
Review by LBJ
Issue 4, Summer/Fall 2004
Wow...Seriously...If you like the beeps and boops of dancey electronic music and the sincerity of emotional rock, then why haven't you purchased this album yet?! If you don't know much about this band, here's a little bio about them:
The singer/song writer, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie decided to team up with a guy named Jim Tamborello and 2 young ladies both named Jen, Jen Wood and Jenny Lewis from the band Rilo Kiley, for this side project. The problem, however, was distance between the members. So, they thought it would be a good idea to just snail mail each other the music. Then, each member of the group would add their own parts. Hence the name, The Postal Service! Eventually MTV got ahold of some of their material and added them to their "You Heard It First" tour. Now, their popularity is beginning to skyrocket. I'm personally not in to too much pop music, but "Give Up" is a phenomenal album. Beautiful call and response male/female vocals and quirky Nintendo-esque sounding keyboards stream through the entire album that can really put a smile on your face. Buy the crap out of this album!
