The Years Gone By, Racing Kites, A Criminal Risk - Point Pleasant Elks Lodge 1/31/09

Review and photos by Alicia Applecore

The Point Pleasant Elks Lodge was unusually crammed with people on January 31, 2009. After escaping from the cold outside, the mob of people had shuffled inside, gotten their hands stamped, and filed into position in front of the first band, A Criminal Risk. Their set was well-received but over rather quickly.

The next band took the "stage," and the next, and the next, until finally Racing Kites was up. They set up some super-cool light boxes with their name cut into it, one word on each amp. Most of the set was from "Be My Runaway," Racing Kites' new album. To say that the crowd was loud would be an understatement. In fact, I doubt that Matt and Alex could hear themselves most of the time.

With the atmosphere buzzing, it was time for The Years Gone By to play. Although it was the end of the night, the Elks Lodge was still packed with kids. TYGB are amazing at pleasing their crowd with a perfect mix of old and new material, and this show was no different. The crowd went crazy; there were even people crowdsurfing a few times! The boys apprehensively played "Tear Down the Stars" live for the first time, and I'm sure that they will continue to do so after seeing the crowd response. All in all, this show was ten dollars and four hours well-spent.
